There are currently two vacancies in the Wales and South West region based at Hinkley Point:

VACANCY ONE

Title: Project Worker/Learning Co-ordinator (Full Time)

Location:  Hinkley Point Site

Vacancy – Project Worker/Learning Co-ordinator

Full time – 32.5 hours per week - GMB Wales & South West Region

Union Learning Project – Hinkley Point Project - Fixed Term Contract to 31 March 2018

We have been successful in our round 18 project bid, and as part of the region’s drive to encourage and support access to our members for lifelong learning opportunities, a vacancy for a Project Worker has arisen.

The project will support the development of a culture of learning across the region for GMB union members and of a network of Union Learning Representatives.

Applicants should have knowledge of the learning agenda and the skills, enthusiasm and commitment to ensure the success of the project.

Essential Criteria

Stage 1 Trade Union Learning Rep training completed

Proven track record organising and recruiting

A clean driving licence and own car are essential

Desirable

Stage 2 Trade Union Learning Rep training completed

Basic computer literacy

The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and capable of:

Ø  Delivery of members onto lifelong learning

Ø  Developing GMB members to become Union Learner Reps (ULR’s)

Ø  Using the learning agenda to organise and recruit people into the GMB

Ø  Negotiating and reaching learning agreements with employers on training and learning opportunities.

A job description is attached and the successful candidates will be based at the Hinkley Point Site.

The salary will be £ 31,466.28 per annum (Grade 5 Band D) with the hours unspecified.

Where applicable we would advise candidates to seek agreement with their current employer to negotiate a secondment for the duration of the project if they are successful.

Training will be provided for the post.

Project Summary:

GMB have collaborated to develop an innovative learning, training and skills project at the Hinkley Point C Nuclear build project.  The ULF Round 18 Project “Building a Learning Alliance – From Strategy to Action @ HPC – South West Region”.  EDF’s Hinkley Point C Project is committed to supporting people into long term, sustainable employment and forms part of a wider ambition to increase diversity across the construction industry.  With some 25,000 employment opportunities available during the build there is a unique opportunity to alter perceptions, increase diversity within construction and leave a skills legacy of which stakeholders can be justly proud.

Principal purpose and objectives of the job

Aims & Objectives:

Improving equality and tackling those most disadvantaged in the labour market background/context.

Growing high quality apprenticeships and traineeships.

Supporting English and maths learners.

Developing the learning infrastructure, improving workforce development and skills progression.

Demonstrating sustainability, value for money and mainstreaming of union learning activity.

Main Duties/Key Tasks

VACANCY TWO:

Title – Secretary/Administrator

Part time – 13 hours per week  - GMB Wales & South West Region

Union Learning Project –  Hinkley Point Project - Fixed Term Contract to 31 March 2018

We have been successful in our round 18 project bid, and as part of the region’s drive to encourage and support access to our members for lifelong learning, a project team will be established.  This has created a vacancy for a secretary/administrator to the team to ensure the project outcomes are met.

Previous secretarial experience and a good working knowledge of information technology including the use of Windows package are essential.  Knowledge of the learning agenda and of trade unions would be desirable.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and highly self-motivated, able to work as part of a team using their own initiative.

A job description is below and the role will be based at the Hinkley Point site.

The salary will be £23,415.24 per annum pro rata (Grade 4 Band A) 13 hours per week.

Where applicable we would advise candidates to seek agreement with their current employer to negotiate a secondment for the duration of the project if they are successful.

Training will be provided for the post.
